PS No Go

Something happened and PS took a crap on the computer I have that WOULD still run it. I feel as though a weight has been lifted and I can finally stopped struggling with this application. So I'm done, and will be moving on to struggling with OTHER applications. Unfortunately my YouTube series is done, incomplete. I'm putting together a video to explain that it's done. I'm doing a second video where I pack all of the ~50 hours I've put in the series into about 10 minutes. Should be compelling. You'll see a lot of incomprehensible blur and then a few minutes later you have a complete island, village, and ship. Just the way development SHOULD be. I may fire up PS on my Xbox from time to time, but maybe not, and even if I do it won't be for anything major. Moving on to Unity and UE4. I have a project in mind for each, and about 3-4 years to finish one before I graduate, so thats what I'm going to try to do.
Sorry I couldn't do more to support SparkShare, but MS's lack of support for PS is the ultimate doom for this lovely tool which Psycho has bequeathed to the world. Good luck with your future Spark endeavors, and your endeavors in general. I follow Sick Rabbit on Twitter, and am eagerly anticipating Casino Heist for Air Console ;)
End of line.

LucidStew, the great Lucid is leaving PS, but you are leaving through the big door mate, you've done well and brought wonderful creations to the Spark community. You'll be missed. But Project Spark is dead, I'm just patiently waiting for it to disappear to be honest. SparkShare was a dream, and this dream is gonna end soon or later too.

Stay in touch with us if you go Unity, we are working on it too :) . PM me your skype if you want. Good luck!

(Casino Heist is coming on Android / IOS / Win10, AirConsole has too low audience ^^ )

So did you completely move over from Construct, or are you still using that? I've done a bit of basic game dev in Unity, but it's been a little while, and I'll probably need to refresh my memory quite a bit. However, one of the games I have in mind is a 2D games, so Unity would be an ideal platform to build it in.

Casino Heist was an entry to the Gameboyjam5 gamejam from Wert and Phil. The result was really cool so we decided to port it to android and further develop it. It was originaly made on Construct2 so we are finishing it on Construct2. This will most probably be the last game on Construct2 for us, except maybe for some prototypes. We are moving on Unity for my great pleasure, because C2 is very limitating and as a dev, I need code lines to live. If you code, there's no limit. In C2 you are limited by the condition/action combos. Of course, I made some plugins myself to make life easier, but it's not enough :)

Unity still a bit limited on the performance side. I'm surprised you aren't building your own engine. ;) Why not code it in C++ from scratch? I've been watching Jonathan Blow's YT videos of late. He is developing a code language aimed specifically at games, which I find interesting and would like to learn when it's released.
End of line.

Perf side for the creator, the IDE itself or you mean end side on the player's side? For me, Unity is much lighter than UE when it comes to creating. And I'm not so sure that performence wise UE and Unity have difference. The question is more what game are you doing, which defines what IDE you should use. Yes I talk a lot about Unity, for some reason I'm not a big fan of UE Editor even though I'm an Unreal Tournament fan and used the precursor of UE Editor already 15 years ago :)

About building your own engine, dude, that's a gigantic work! I had started doing something just for fun last year, but never continued actually. This is a little video of it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ilz_Aw45QUg

That's already a lot of work to get to that point...
